We’re helping companiions tackle the loneliness crisis by making it quick, easy and safe to arrange companionship for yourself or a loved one.
The companiions app allows you to quickly arrange a meeting with a companion, all of whom are vetted and DBS checked, for yourself or a loved one.
Loneliness, throughout the UK, is a rising problem – highlighted especially during the 2020 nationwide lockdown. Recent national research shows that 83% of UK adults experience loneliness and, together with companiions, we’re on a mission to reduce this number.
The ultimate goal
Companiions needed a brand identity, a seamless website and an Android and iOS functioning app, that allowed users to easily and safely book companion appointments, leave reviews and use an instant messaging service.
The app needed to work for two different types of users – the person seeking companionship and the person wanting to sign up to become a companion, and create a profile. It had complex functionality requirements, such as; the ability to search for companions in your local area, a check-in system, an interface that allows family members/friends to see real-time updates on how their loved one is doing and in-app chat functionality.

Parallax’s Solution
We developed the companiions brand identity and rolled this out across their new website build, which was designed and created by our designers and developers. Click here to have a nosey!
For the app build, we used React Native, which allowed us to rapidly develop robust applications in JavaScript, whilst taking advantage of native UI elements needed for the level of polish consumers expect from an app.
We made it possible for users to make peer to peer payments, access discounts and leave reviews, as well as all the functionality requirements mentioned above.
One of the most important aspects of the app is security. Users and family members need to know that the app is completely safe, so we ensured that security and vetting checks were both robust and thorough. We created selfie-based face liveness to check the user’s face against a scanned photo ID or passport, which confirms they are who they say they are.
We believe in the concept and cause so much that we’ve made an investment into the business and will continue to work with companiions in a long-term partnership.
